Leapin' Into Decisions

Tonight we stopped by the model home in our neighborhood to meet with our SR and sign a paper that needed editing after we left the night we officially signed the contract. While we were there, we decided to start making some decisions for the exterior of the house and the countertops and cabinets inside.

The exterior selections were easy as we had already talked about what colors we wanted before we decided to build this home. We plan to go with a dark tan/khaki color (don't quite remember what color Ryan calls it) with black shutters and a black front door. We will also have stone work at the bottom portion of the front of the home. The house will also have a right-side driveway and side garage for the home (which is very different from the model picture I placed on here). All of these decisions went quickly.

We had talked about the cabinet colors as well and we plan to have dark brown (Cherry Bordeaux) for all cabinets in the home (kitchen, master bath and hall bath). This is where the "easy" decisions were made. However, we are still not settled on the countertops as we couldn't come to an agreement. We left tonight having made a selection (the Jamocha granite pattern for laminate), but my husband is not settled on it. In fact, I left with my "top two" choices (the Jamocha and the Butterrum) and he claims to not like either. We have about 12 more days to make our decision before they will need to know our decision in order to finalize the purchases and orders for the home.

  1. I think it really depends on your personal style to whether you like staying more in the box and according to trends you would go with the darker one, but design mentality says to keep away from matchy-matchy and always go for the contrasting color to give the space more character. Decisions, decisions... :) Ericka

  2. We have the Cherry Spice cabinets which are a shade lighter than your cabinets and we were really thinking about going with the Butterrum we both liked the way the lighter counter tops complimented the cabinets. We wound up going with the upgrade and doing the 180fx laminate in Golden Mascarello.

  3. Thanks for your thoughts and input! Home for Morris- we did talk about a possible upgrade but that we will figure out for sure next week when we meet with flooring! For now, I'll sleep on it!
